The Organising Committee has planned to conducting one of the State of Art Pre-conference Workshop on 25th December 2009 . All important surgical procedures done by open surgery as well as by laparoscopy will be shown. Simultaneously, the operating teams will be performing surgeries in 4 to 5 major institutions and they will be telecast at the conference venue at different halls. And the delegates can choose the halls as they prefer. The best of the national and international faculty member are selected for the Workshop.

Academic Programme Information
Continuing Medical Education Programme
There will be a Continuing Medical Education Programme during the conference. A Sub-Committee will look after the work relating to the conduct of the C.M.E. Programme for 2009.

Symposia / General Surgery
Members desirous of participating in Symposia are requested to contact the Convenors of the respective Symposium for further information.
The following guidelines should be followed regarding these Symposia/Panels :
1. The faculty selection strictly on merit and experience on the subject.
2. The speakers should submit the matter of their presentation to the Moderator/Convenor.
3. The time limit and number of slides is restricted for every speaker.
4. There should not be more than six speakers for any Symposium and not more than 8-9 members for Panel Discussion.
5. The total time of each Symposium/Panel Discussion is 90 minutes,; of this, 30 minutes must be strictly reserved for audience participation.
6. Different speakers should be selected for different Symposia to give an opportunity to more members to participate.
7. Each Moderator/Convenor is requested to send the list of participants to the Honry. Secretary before 31st August 2009 with full text of the Symposia.
 
Video Cassettes and Lectures on subjects delivered during ASICON 2007 and ASICON 2008 should not be repeated.All participants for Symposia must send in their videos/matter to the respective Moderator/Convenor before 15th July 2009.

Short Papers, Videos, Posters Etc., For General Surgery Session
Short Paper Session :
Short Papers, Videos, Posters and “Common Programme” papers will be accepted for presentation at the Conference. Members who are desirous of presenting these in the general surgery session are requested to send 6 copies of the abstracts of their papers in the format enclosed with a covering note to Honry. Secretary, Association of Surgeons of India, 21, Swamy
Sivananda Salai, Chepak, Chennai-600 005 on or before 15th August 2009. The abstract should not be more than 300 words and should contain the details data in terms of methods, materials and results. The size of the covering note and the abstracts to be sent should be identical as in the enclosed format.
The declaration with the covering note should be furnished without fail.

Abstracts of Short Papers :
Last date for submission -15th August 2009
Date of intimation of acceptance - 30th September 2009
Abstracts received after 15th August 2009 and without Six Copies of the abstracts will not be considered. Candidates registered on or before 30th September 2009 will be permitted to present the papers.
 
Format :
1. Title should be in all capitals
2. Type the text in single spacing, in pica 10CPI with electronic typewriter
3. Your abstract will be printed as it appears within the frame
4. You may add a line diagram or table in the abstract.
5. The abstract must contain aim and object, methods and results followed by conclusions.
6. Comments like “ Results will be discussed” will not be accepted
7. Send 6 nos. Xerox copies of the abstract together with the original
8. Not more than 2 papers will be accepted from the same presenter
9. Scientific Committee reserves the right to assign the paper to any session it deems fit.
10. Please send the abstracts to the appropriate address for inclusion in the General or Speciality Sessions.
The accepted papers will be grouped according to the subject matter and sessions will be titled accordingly. A paper will be presented for 8 minutes with discussion for 2 minutes.
 
Award Paper Presentation
Best Paper :
The presenter must be a member of ASI and he should not be more than 40 years of age. The age must be supported with documents. The full text of the paper along with ten copies must be sent to ASI Head Qtrs before 15th August 2009. Best papers among these will be selected and awarded certificates. The stated Presenter must present the paper.
 
Best Chapter Paper (from Annual Conference of State Chapters, 2008-2009) :
There will be separate sessions in ASICON2009 for the presentation of papers adjudged best by the state chapters. Therefore state chapters are requested to send the original text of the Best Papers along with ten copies with the details of the enter etc., to ASI Head Quarters before 15th August 2009. The Presenter should appear while presenting the paper in ASICON2009. Otherwise the paper will not be accepted. Duration of 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for discussion. Chapters who decide about the best paper after this date will be taken up for the next year only.
 
Research Paper :
There will be a separate session for presenting research papers. Papers are invited for presentation in this session, The paper must be of innovative, inventive type of research work or clinical research type. This should not have been presented or published elsewhere.The presenter must be a member of ASI and he should not be more than 40 years of age. The age must be supported with documents. The full text of the paper along with ten copies must be sent to ASI Head Quarters before 15th August 2009. Best papers among these will be selected and awarded certificate. Duration of 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for discussion.
 
Poster Session :
The poster session forms an important part and popular mode of presentation as no one misses the message due to overlapping sessions. The posters will be grouped as per the subjects. They will be on display from 10 am to 5 pm. The presentation will be during lunch time and again between 3 pm to 4 pm before the judges. Best posters will be awarded certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The poster may be sent to ASI Head Quarters before 15th August 2009
 
Video Sessions :
These sessions will be chaired by Chairman and Co-Chairman. The presenters will be personally present and each presentation will be followed by discussion. The CDs must be sent to the ASI Head Quarters for scrutiny and acceptance, during -15 minutes. The CDs sent to the ASI will be retained for the use in the ASI Library. Papers will not be accepted if they are not accompanied by a Video Cassettee.
 
Surgical Resident / Trainee’s Paper Session :
There will be a competition paper session for Post Graduate Students of Surgery. Students who are associate members of the association are eligible to participate in the competition. The three best papers will be awarded gifts, books, teaching CDs and/or offered fellowship training in speciality centres.
