All innovations & surgical techniques have emerged from the great surgeons who had belief in themselves, I would like to salute, all our great predecessors who have brought surgery at the current level of our practice. This year CME is going to be devoted towards the new development in surgery and hence we have titled it “Newer technology, newer techniques”. It is an attempt to address emerging issues in various sub specialties of surgery for all our colleagues who are practicing at teaching/non teaching & urban /rural hospitals in our country.
Continuing surgical education will remain to be main focus of our conference. We, at the association are committed to maintain standards & learning opportunity at all levels of training & development.

This year, particularly, the CME committee has also tried to address some of the common issues faced by our junior colleagues in training & post graduate student. To start a new trend, a whole session in CME program is devoted to them.

I have requested all the speakers to make sure that their talks are relevant to most of our members and they bring freshness in their presentations. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our president Dr R.P Srivastva & other office bearers of our association for their support to structure this CME program. Though, theme for the conference reflects to current surgical environment, our fundamental tenet remains the same quality-- the ways in which we achieve the best for our patients may vacillate from education to research to advocacy.

Together, we face a very bright & promising future.

As an office bearer of the ASI it is a pleasure for me to invite you and your families to ASICON 2009. From the freezing cold and fog of Ludhiana in December 2008. God has granted our great and vast country such varied options for we are now going to the warm and sunny weather of Coimbatore. I am sure you will all enjoy this change and come to Coimbatore in larger numbers.
These conferences play a very vital role in the academic and social life of an Indian Surgeon and I have every hope that ASICON 2009 under the dynamic leadership of Dr.C. Palanivelu and Dr.S. Sadasivam will prove to be a grand success. A large number of international and national faculties have already given their consent and I for-see some very illuminating and instructive scientific sessions.

Looking forward to seeing you at Coimbatore in December 2009.
With warm personal regards,

Dear Colleagues,
These are exiting but demanding times for ASI. The Strength of the association is growing by leaps and bounds. To rise to the occasion, the association is undergoing a pragmatic change.
First and foremost, please allow me to take this opportunity to extend a very warm and personal invitation to all of you to join us at the ASICON 2009 at Coimbatore where a "Scientific Feast" awaits you. There has been a feeling among many of us that the scientific program is tending to take a backseat during our annual conferences and more and more stress is given to other activities.
As the Secretary of ASI, it is my bounden duty and commitment to bring the academics to the fore, which has been the major goal of ASI. We have decided to make a major change in our approach which will be evident to you in the ASICON 2009. Scientific programme will be the crux of the conference. The programme will be designed so as to meet the requirements and needs of every member.
We call for full support and participation of our fellow colleagues so that the art of surgery and our associaion can reach to unprecedented heights.

Long Live ASI
